Religion

I think it strange that religion is so regional.  Why would god want to send their prophet only to a certain region?  It seems that he would know that some confusion would arise.

However, the fact that religion is a worldwide phenomenon, I think speaks tremendously to the fact that there is a universal aspect which we may all embrace.

I have a friend who is an atheist, and we have had some spirited discussions due to my upbringing as a Catholic.  I may have to agree with him though in being against organized religion.  He points to all of the violence and evil that has occurred from it, but it seems like that is the same with any facet of life.  Humans are corruptable, and so religion as an extension of humanity can also be corrupted and twisted into doing something for morally bankrupt purposes.  However, I don’t think we should throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Pardon the following as it derives from my Christian background, but it seems that the commonality of religion suggests a connection, seemingly like little satellites that offer their own interpretation for appreciating life and returning the favor for such a miracle.  My friend  the atheist pointed out that the idea of god beaming down goodness to us was a very western notion, so those religions descended from the east may suggest this as being more of an inner notion.

It all seems that inside of us there is a thankfulness for living, and a knowledge that there can be a better world than the corruption which we face on a daily basis.  Therefore we have set down goals as to lead such a life and attribute that goodness to god, since it is omniscient and all powerful in being within all of us – the similarities of being a part of humanity.  A universal characteristic of humanity in wanting the best for those we care for, and so extending this perception can incorporate all who live among us.

The Romans worshipped individual gods who represented our varied vices and virtues, of war, love, wisdom, and power.  As life evolved we could discern that some of these could be labeled as being constructive for life (good) while others were detrimental (evil), thereby generating god and the devil.

Spirituality is criticized since it is something that cannot be seen or proven, however the wind, x-rays, and plate tectonics all fell under this category previously, and that it was only through many years of study that we were able to grasp such concepts.

So please, do not rule out your spirituality since life is far too grand to be close minded

My Summation

People seem to be composed of layers.  As we make decisions on how we handle/interpret our lives, we appeal to different emotions or virtues and vices in order to act as we do.  As each decision occurs, it solidifies a piece of who we are since we either like the reaction that occurred, or choose to use an alternative approach in the event’s next occurrence.  Perhaps this is why fiction appeals to us, as it is an interpretation of what may have occurred with our lives should we have strayed from our preconceived notion of what we want out of life.

To this effect, we can see destiny.  By following the virtue of good, one may choose to uphold justice or attempt to better society, while evil may lead us to not accept the harder lifestyle.  Even here you can see my slant, as seeing good as being the equivalent to working hard in its effort to provide, which then allow evils the opportunity to have an easier lifestyle of lethargy and waste, since it may not produce any sort of public good while benefiting off of its labor.

In truth though, it may take evil just as much effort in order to accomplish this goal.  Therefore it seems a cosmic balance can be struck.  Those that want the moral gratification of being pure versus those that want to enjoy more of the worldly pleasures and not work in the efforts of the good, while some of us choose to try to walk a line in between.  Moderation may be desired since it exposes us to both sides, allowing us to reap the benefits and enjoy the most of what life has to offer rather than not knowing what lay on the path not traveled.

One can understand those that turn to evil as possibly a personality complex, as those who are not able to rise to prominence by following the structured hierarchy of the good can find such prestige in an area opposed to the efforts of mainstream thought.

Do we have a good and evil checking account where we write off and try to balance out our sins?

Commercials

We know we’re being sold.  Everything has a label slapped on it and so commercials try to distinguish themselves through association with certain values.  Why do we choose product A over B?  Is it simply because of some preconceived notion that seems to have little or nothing to do with what we think the product represents in our lives?

I heard of a study where people buy products as representations of who they are, except the problem is no one is listening.  We know material goods are worthless and expendable, yet we continuously try to keep up with the Jones, wasting money and effort on something that can never really help fulfill our lives.

I’m tired of being sold, and its hard to criticize commercials as being ridiculous or stupid because that is their intent, they simply want to place their name in our minds as name recognition goes far in our determination of what to purchase.  No matter what it seems that they win as the only way to beat such a process is to do the research ourselves and therefore buy the product that is best for our needs, but do we really want to waste time and effort just to spite these companies?

Fuck

The Fall of Rome

My head is a mess.  I want to do something that might bring people together.  Rome fell because people became lazy and selfish in governing themselves and leading their lives, so we should not allow ourselves to fall into the same pitfall.

I’m one of those people who thinks of the right thing to say a week later.  I always need to work it out in my head and so I hope this can be a suitable outlet for what may arise.  Maybe it’s being too optimistic, but I would hope that others feel the same way.  That an openly anonymous forum used to vent frustration, fears, hopes and views of the world can help broaden and enlighten our own.

A life unchallenged is not worth living, why hold on to views that I am unable to defend defend or which seem outdated.  Therefore I need others to attack them.  I need the world because I know that we are going to attain our goals, resolve our differences, so why not start on that today?

Essentially everyone is just trying to do what they think is best, what we need to do is realize that and accept one another without hurting each other.

Let’s see how this goes…
